Gazebo Project Worklog #1

I’m building a gezebo, why I’m not sure, however what I do know is that it will be great once completed. The project was designed completley in Google Sketchup, which helped me work out complex angles and otherwise difficult to calculate measurements with ease. The gazebo will be eight sided, with seven sides filled in the a lower wall section and upper window of glass/pvc. The entrance will likley feature a pair of 620 wide 8 pane french doors.

On day 3 I have completed five of eight posts. The first one wasn’t great and took over an hour, the fifth one is somewhat better and took about half the time. Some pics attached.

Disable Avira Nagware

I have found Avira Free to be quite a decent piece of software and as such have switched over to it from AVG. However the nagware is a pain in the arse! This is a very simple way of disabling it in XP Pro/Vista Ultimate.

  1. Open the ‘Local Security Policy (Local Security Settings) Panel’, found under ‘Control Panel > Administrative Tools’.
  2. Open the ‘Software Restriction Policies’ directory.
  3. If there is an ‘Additional Rules’ directory ignore this step, otherwise click the ‘Action’ menu (at the top) and select ‘Create New Restriction Policies’
  4. Open the ‘Additional Rules’ directory
  5. Click the ‘Action’ menu (at the top) and select ‘New Path Rule…’
  6. Click the ‘Browse’ button and navigate to your Avira install directory, usually ‘C:Program FilesAviraAntiVir PersonalEdition Classic’
  7. Highlight ‘avnotify.exe’ and click the ‘Ok’ button.

Now Avira will function as normal, however you won’t get the annoying nag screen every time it updates.

Plugin Release: List Installed Plugins

This plugin I believe is the first of its kind and I would love for as many blogs as possible to use it! Very simple it lists the active plugins on your blog. The output can be customized and plugins hidden if desired.

See the List Installed Plugins page for more information and to download.

Plugin Update: Static Page eXtended

Version 2

I have reworked the plugin, mainly improvements to the code and administrative interface. Inline PHP have been reworked such that it is not backwards compatible. If you follow the rules inline PHP should work quite well. Note that other plugins that work on post content may interfere with inline includes and php. Get the updated plugin at Wordpress Plugins Directory: Static Page eXtended.

Note that at last check the WP directory hadn’t yet updated to the new version.

New Theme

I’m currently using the Aeros theme, with a custom background photo of mine. The theme is very slim and well built, very easy to edit.

Plugin Release: XSLT RSS

Contradictory to my earlier post I have created a new plug in and added it to this site. This plugin creates a new widget for aggregating rss feeds. Unlike the built in widget this allows full control over the feed’s appearance via XSL templates.

Google Chrome Links

Personally I’m not exactly blown away by the browser, its an interesting piece of software but I’ll be sticking with Firefox for some time yet.

Really well researched article goes through Googles lead up to releasing the browser:

Lifehacker’s summary of Chrome’s hidden “about:” pages:

Lifehacker article goes through Firefox plugins to enable some similar functionallity to Chrome:
